Son and Daughter Day AUGUST 11, 2015

DIANE'S CORNER ... Celebrate Son and Daughter Day

Son and Daughter Day is the perfect opportunity to set aside some time to reflect on the joy that children bring to your life. Whether sons and daughters are young or old, teenagers or toddlers, the bond between parent and child is like no other on earth and this annual celebration ensures the miracle of bringing new life into the world is never forgotten. Though the origins of Son and Daughter Day are unknown, it is celebrated widely across the world simply by parents spending time with their children and letting them know how special they are to them. The best gift to give on Son and Daughter Day is the gift of time. If your children are still living at home, take some time out of your schedule to truly enjoy their company. If your children have moved away, make sure they return so you can spend quality family time together.

If You Were Born Today, August 11

You have a rare, balanced combination of logic and intuition. Your people skills help bring success into your life, and partnering up tends to also attract positive experiences into your life. You are a rather ambitious person who is likely to be quite successful and not financially wanting, as you value security, both in your career and your love life. You are attracted to, or you attract, successful and strong people as romantic partners. Togetherness and partnership are more important to you than personal glory. Sales, promotion, and public relations are strong for you. While routine and structure are important to your happiness, you should watch for falling into ruts. In relationships, you may stay longer than most in a difficult set-up. You have staying power, however, and this can serve you well. This can also translate literally as a long life and good health overall. Famous people born today: Alex Haley, Hulk Hogan, Jerry Falwell, Anna Gunn, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Messina.

CrockPot Stewed Tomatoes

A hundred million years ago before we had children, Adam and I went to a really fancy restaurant and they served us stewed tomatoes as a side dish. Being the classy folk we are, we immediately began poking fun at how we were spending a bunch of money on canned tomatoes. Then we tasted them. The tomatoes were delicious. Warm, flavorful, and a bit spicy.

The Ingredients.

--2 cans of whole plum tomatoes (28 oz cans), drained (I used the kind that had basil in them already)
--1/4 t ground black pepper
--1 1/2 cups shredded Parmesan cheese
--5 T butter, sliced

The Directions.

I used a 4qt round crockpot for this dish. If you only have a huge crockpot, keep an eye on it so the tomatoes don't burn, or double the recipe.

Drain the tomatoes--use a strainer--you don't need any of the can liquid. Plop the tomatoes into the crockpot. Sprinkle on the ground black pepper. Add the Parmesan cheese. Slice your butter into thin squares, and dot them over the top of the cheese.

Cover and cook on high for 4 hours, or until cheese is bubbly and is beginning to brown.

The Verdict.

so so good. I really liked these, a lot. I'm not a big tomato eater; I take them out of sandwiches usually, and I don't use ketchup on french fries. I am surprised, REALLY surprised, how much I like tomatoes this way. I ate them for dinner, instead of as a side dish. The kids didn't come close to attempting a bite.

CRAFTS .. felt

Itwins can sometimes be little monsters...then it seems equally probable that little monsters can sometimes be twins...and like all twins they too must have that peculiar property of being very alike, and yet at the same time, being individuals who are very unlike each other...

story of my life. it's sad but the truth. already planning it for tomorrow after studying tonight.
Game .. Pickup

The other day, while I had the paper clips out, I thought it would be fun to make a barrel of monkeys type game by bending them into hook shapes.  Have a good time figuring out how to get them all linked together, and also how to get them apart.

I lined an old tin with some felt, for a place to keep them.

Dutch Artist Creates Grotesque Human Sculptures Out of Women’s Stockings

By SumitraNylon stockings can be sexy, but in the hands of artist Rosa Verloop, they take a turn toward the grotesque. The Dutch artist is famous for using nylon stockings to create distorted sculptures of the human form. She collects thousands of used stockings in nude shades which she then molds, tucks, and sews together until they take on recognizable human shapes. Verloop layers and clumps the material, sometimes holding it up with pushpins, to produce wrinkled and distorted facial features.
