Eiffel Tower Day - March 31, 2020

DIANE'S CORNER ...
Celebrate Eiffel Tower Day

Eiffel Tower Day is a holiday that is all about celebrating the wonderful monument that stands proudly in the city of lights. The day marks the completion of the Eiffel Tower in 1889, taking 2 years, 2 months and 5 days in total to build.
It was constructed for the International Exhibition of Paris, during the 100th anniversary of the French Revolution, and was named after the principal engineer, Gustave Eiffel. Celebrate this iconic day by planning a trip to the historic landmark and have a bite at the Le 58 Tour Eiffel Restaurant. For people who are anywhere else in the world, there are plenty of ways to celebrate.
Wear clothes or jewelry that feature the Eiffel Tower, bake a scrumptious Eiffel Tower cake and invite friends and family to admire and enjoy it, or throw a picnic party with French flags and treats to get everyone in the spirit of the day.

The cat made me get up at the crack of dawn, and wanted to be fed twice. She is not used to me being around so much, so I think she’s trying to take advantage. Ha-rumph. Me, I had Oreo Thins for breakies...too many of them. But groceries will arrive on Friday, and I will be back to healthy eating again. Now if only Amazon would show up with the cat food Prime promised yesterday; tomorrow may find my one-eyed companion gnawing at my bones.

Shoeless Joe Jackson
Shoeless Joe Jackson (1887–1951) was an American
outfielder who played Major League Baseball in the early 1900s.
He is remembered for his performance on the field and for his
association with the Black Sox Scandal, in which members of the
1919 Chicago White Sox participated in a conspiracy to fix the
World Series. Jackson played for three Major League teams
during his twelve-year career, briefly playing for the Philadelphia
Athletics and the minor league New Orleans Pelicans before
joining the Cleveland Naps for five years and finishing his career
with the Chicago White Sox. He played left field for most of his
career, and currently has the third-highest career batting average
in major league history. He always denied being part of the match
fixing scandal and subsequent events have cast doubts on his
involvement. This picture shows Jackson holding his baseball
bat, Black Betsy, during his time with the Cleveland Naps in 1913.
