Leonardo of Pisa, better known as Fibonacci, is responsible for the Fibonacci Sequence (or Fibonacci numbers) – a pattern of counting where each number is the sum of the previous two. As well as being prevalent in nature, this kind of system is used widely in computer data storage and processing, and Fibonacci Day recognizes the importance and value of Fibonacci’s contributions to mathematics.

Sometimes the simplest recipes are just the best. So often we try to complicate our lives and our cooking by thinking more is better, and simple can’t be good. But I have recently discovered the secret to the best, nondairy garlic bread to accompany a big plate of spaghetti and meatballs, and it’s simplicity may shock you. Ok, maybe I am being overly dramatic. It is just garlic bread after all.
Roasted garlic is one of my favorite flavors. I add whole garlic cloves to lots of my dishes – roast chicken, root vegetables, etd. I love the slight sweetness of roasted garlic, plus it’s a cinch to prepare and it’s super healthy! Garlic has more vitamin c than even orange juice.
Recently I roasted a whole head of garlic, added it to a healthy amount of olive oil and smashed it into a baguette for the simplest, most delicious garlic bread. I didn’t miss the butter, or Parmesan that some garlic bread recipes call for. Ok, maybe I missed the butter a little.
I would serve this crispy bread alongside some traditional Italian meatballs or a cozy bowl of soup. You will see – sometimes delicious doesn’t need to be complicated at all.
Ingredients
one large French-style baguette
2 whole heads of garlic
salt and pepper
1/3 cup olive oil
fresh parsley (optional)

Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Place garlic on a baking sheet or in a oven-safe ramekin. Sprinkle with salt and pepper and drizzle with olive oil. Roast in the oven for 35-40 ,minutes, until garlic is completely soft and golden but not crisp.
Allow garlic to cool. You can prepare this step a few hours or a day ahead of time.
Cut baguette in half. Squeeze cloves from bulb and smash with a fork. Add olive oil and continue smashing.
Spread half the garlic mixture on one side of the bread, and the other half of mixture on the other side. Sprinkle with salt and pepper and place on a baking sheet.
Bake for 10-15 minutes, until just crisp and golden. Remove from oven and top with fresh parsley if desired.

CrockPot Peppermint Hot Chocolate/ Peppermint Mocha Recipe
Good morning!
serves 10-12 people.
--3 cups nonfat dried milk
--1 cup powdered sugar
--3/4 cup cocoa powder
--1/4 tsp salt
--1/2 cup chocolate syrup
--1 to 2 tsp peppermint extract (my kids thought 2tsp was too strong.)
--7 cups water
--marshmallows and candy canes for garnish
for a "mocha":
--pour the cooked hot chocolate over a shot of espresso or a half-cup of very strong coffee
for an "adult drink":
--omit the peppermint extract and pour the hot chocolate over a shot of Peppermint Schnapps
I used a 4 quart crockpot.
Combine the dry ingredients into your crockpot and stir with a spoon. Squeeze in a half-cup of chocolate sauce, and add the peppermint extract. Add the water, a cup at a time, and stir well. The chocolate-y mixture will be bubbly and look powdery. It's okay---it will cook together.
Cover and cook on high for 2-3 hours, or until completely hot. Serve with marshmallows and candy canes. If serving to guests, keep the pot on low with the lid off, and provide a ladle. If kept on warm, the hot chocolate will not stay warm enough.
The Verdict.
Very tasty. I tried it plain, and with a half cup of strong coffee. I did not try the Peppermint Schnapps version, but assume it would taste good. The kids thought that the 2 tsp of peppermint extract was too strong, but that 1tsp was perfect. I recommend starting with 1 tsp, and add 1/4 tsp at a time to taste.

FOR THE BIRDS
I used a utility knife and cut out letters from cardboard to spell the word "WELCOME". I also poked holes in the top of the letters for stringing. Then, we spread peanut butter on both sides and coated it well with bird seed.
The letters are surprisingly heavy after you're finished. We strung twine through the letters to make a garland, then hung them in the trees.
It wasn't too long before the word got out!
If you want to make some similar at home, I have a couple of suggestions...
This is a very Messy project (note capital M). Protect your surface and your floor if you need to. We went through a jar of peanut butter to finish all the letters. You'll definitely get bird seed in your peanut butter jar, so, if you have any left, reserve it for later projects, not for eating ;)
I used thick cardboard cut from boxes for the letters. It needs to be thick to hold up to the peanut butter and seed.
Use a good heavy twine, light-weight rope or something similar for the garland. I thought our twine might not be strong enough to hold all the letters and the birds that would land on it, but so far, so good.
We've had a LOT of birds already, sometimes I'll look out the window and see it covered up with customers.
