Different Colored Eyes Day celebrates people whose irises are different colors. Eye color is controlled by the levels of melanin present in the iris, and in rare cases this can vary between individual eyes, resulting in a person having two different colored eyes.

Born in Chile as Neftalí Ricardo Reyes Basoalto, Neruda began writing poetry at age 10, published his most popular work, Twenty Love Poems and a Song of Despair, at 20, and was later awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature. A surrealist, he revitalized everyday expressions and employed bold metaphors in free verse. In his writings and his political career as a leader of the Chilean Communist party and as a diplomat, he exerted a wide influence in Latin America. (he was my dearest poet all through university .. mmm) |

Chadron, Nebraska, was at one time a frontier town with a reputation for lawlessness. Today, Fur Trade Days is an attempt to recreate the excitement of the town's active frontier trading days in the mid-1800s. Activities include a buffalo cookout, horseshoe pitching and buffalo chip-throwing contests, and a primitive rendezvous with a black powder shoot. |

DAILY SQU-EEK
If You Were Born Today, July 12
You are a colorful, likable, and intelligent person, but you are not always well understood, probably due to a somewhat contradictory nature. You have a way with words, possess great wit, and your intuition is very strong. If lacking confidence, you tend to get into a rut; but at your best, you embrace your spontaneity. Your life path is not always easy, but with age and experience, you learn how to avoid worrying excessively about the future. Famous people born today: Henry David Thoreau, Bill Cosby, Cheryl Ladd, Milton Berle, Michelle Rodriguez, Topher Grace.

Christian Schlamann encountered this “very friendly and curious lionfish” in the Red Sea. Native to the reefs and rocky crevices of the Indo-Pacific, lionfish have found their way to warm ocean habitats worldwide. In the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico, the voracious predators are considered a destructive invasive species.

Man Chops in Half Everything He and His Girlfriend Owned after Breakup
By Sumitra
We’ve seen people do strange things to cope with the pain of a breakup – like spending a week at KFC or inventing ridiculous uses for a wedding dress. But German eBay user ‘der.juli’ took post-breakup madness to the next level by literally cutting in half all the things he and his ex owned together.
It must have been a terrible breakup – what else could have prompted him to do destroy his TV, iPhone, laptop and even his car? We’re not kidding, he actually sliced his green Opel Corsa and his Macbook Pro neatly down the middle! He’s now selling the broken stuff on eBay, each priced at less than $2.
