History

Amedeo Avogadro (1776)

In 1811, Avogadro, an Italian physicist, advanced the hypothesis that equal volumes of gases under identical conditions of pressure and temperature contain the same number of molecules. Now one of the fundamental concepts of the atomic theory of matter, his theory has become known as Avogadro's law. Since then, physicists have determined the number of molecules in the gram-molecular weight and found that it is the same for all gases

DAILY SQU-EEK

If You Were Born Today, August 9
Although your personality is restless, you are at your best when meeting your responsibilities and filling commitments. Self-esteem plummets otherwise. You are hard-working, likable, dependable, and achievement-oriented. Some of you are overachievers. You might often find yourself in the position of managing and taking care of others. You have a very responsible streak and might stay in difficult situations longer than most as a result - watch for over-committing yourself. Because pride and protectiveness can keep you from sharing your worries and concerns with people closest to you, it can be very important for you to find a confidante so that you can share some of your burdens. Making more time for pleasure is also essential to your success. In close relationships, control or imbalance can be issues, but relationships get much better later in life. You are deeply loving and have strong personal magnetism. Famous people born today: Whitney Houston, Gillian Anderson, Melanie Griffith, Audrey Tautou, Anna Kendrick, Eric Bana, Sam Elliott.

PERSONAL QUESTION
sadly, i don't believe i have seen a monarch butterfly flying around my flowers in at least two years. how about yourselves?

Equirectangular projection

The equirectangular projection is a simple map projection attributed to Marinus of Tyre, who Ptolemy claims invented the projection about AD 100. The projection maps meridians to vertical straight lines of constant spacing, and circles of latitude to horizontal straight lines of constant spacing. The projection is neither equal area nor conformal. Because of the distortions introduced by this projection, it has few applications beyond base imagery to be reprojected to some more useful projection.

Photograph by Bryan Geiger, National Geographic
Bryan Geiger’s early morning visit to the summit area of Haleakalā volcano in Hawaii’s Haleakalā National Park yielded this extraordinary image of an otherworldly landscape. “I woke up at 3 a.m. and drove to Haleakalā summit,” Geiger writes. “As the sun came up it revealed only a white wall of mist. After a couple of hours, disappointed and cold, I decided to leave. While driving back I jumped out at the overlook to see if anything had changed. At that moment the clouds retreated and I had only an instant to snap this photo of the [alien-looking] land.”

EYE OPENER

I Turn Flowers & Everyday Objects Into Art

boredpanda

My name is Jesuso and live in Malaga, Spain. When looking at everyday objects (especially flowers) awakens in me a world of creative possibilities reflected in my work.

I like to create fantasy scenes from these objects. It is a way of telling stories with a single image. In addition, objects and real flowers produce a 3D effect in the illustrations that makes them much more attractive. I really like the simplicity, convey a feeling with minimal essence.

Each person is the creator of your reality, there are many more possibilities than our eyes allow us to see. I invite you to regain your inner child curiosity. Wake up your mind!
