Psychotherapy Day SEPTEMBER 25, 2015

DIANE'S CORNER ... Celebrate Psychotherapy Day

If you tell someone that you are celebrating Psychotherapy Day they will probably say ‘you need your head examined’ or some other joking remark, or maybe they will say that people who can afford psychotherapy don’t need a special day. Psychotherapy Day was founded in 2012 by a group of professionals and students and is designed to combat misconceptions and raise awareness of the vital work that is done by therapists in helping the one in four people who suffer from mental illness as well as those with emotional problems. The color turquoise is worn to show support for Psychotherapy Day and can be combined with their logo of a turquoise counselling chair on a black background. It is an ideal time to talk, write, read or blog about psychotherapy in order to break down stigmas and worries, to volunteer or donate to community mental health centers and to share psychotherapy research.

More than 1 million paid accounts have been created since the game launched in 1997. In July 2003, at the peak of its popularity,

Thomas Hunt Morgan (1866)

Morgan was an American zoologist noted for his ingenious demonstration of the physical basis of heredity and the importance of the gene. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1933. Initially skeptical of Gregor Mendel's research and Charles Darwin's theory of natural selection, Morgan performed rigorous experiments demonstrating that genes were discrete chromosomal units of heredity.

The inhabitants of the Marshall Islands have long kept a tradition centered on thealele, a soft-sided basket handmade from the native pandanus plant. "Lutok Kobban Alele" is a weeklong festival that honors the basket as a national symbol and celebrates Marshallese culture in general, concluding with an official ceremony on Manit Day, a public holiday observed on the last Friday of September. Activities take place in the capital city of Majuro and include performances by Marshallese singers and dancers, feasts, traditional storytelling, and demonstrations of basket weaving and cooking.

CrockPot Cheeseburger Soup Recipe

Good morning! I decided to take the advice given from Fortress of Awesome to make a soup with Velveeta to get my kids excited about the Crock-Pot again.

It worked.

Velveeta is wonderful.

I had a bit left over from the Buffalo Wing Soup, and was happy to use it up. That stuff is dangerous. I found myself cutting off a sliver here and there just because it was 10 am. Or 1 pm.

I've made this soup for years----I have since lightened it up the best I can without losing the cheesy-goodness. I have also omitted the can of condensed cream-of-something soup.

The Ingredients.

--4 cups chicken broth
--1 T dried onion (or 1/2 of a white onion, diced finely)
--1 lb lean ground beef, browned and drained on the stove top
--1 red bell pepper, seeded and chopped
--2 potatoes, cut in 1-inch cubes (the photo showed 4, but after cutting 2, I saw it was plenty)
--2 small garlic cloves, minced
--1 cup milk (to add later, soy is fine)
--24 oz Velveeta, cubed (to add later)
--Tabasco sauce, optional
--crumbled bacon, optional

The Directions.

Brown the meat on the stove top with the onion, and drain fat. I have used 1/2 pound instead of a whole pound before, and we didn't miss the extra meat. Set aside to cool a bit.

In a 5-6 quart crockpot, pour in chicken broth. Add garlic, bell pepper, and potatoes (I didn't peel them), and add. Stir in the browned meat and onion.

Cover and cook on low for 6 hours, or until onions are translucent and potatoes are tender. Stir in milk and Velveeta 20-30 minutes before serving. If you'd like the broth thicker, blend a bit with a hand held stick blender.

Garnish with Tabasco sauce and crumbled bacon if desired.

The Verdict. Everyone liked this. Surprise, surprise.

POISONOUS MUSHROOMS
Mushroom poisoning (also known as mycetism) refers to harmful effects from ingestion of toxic substances present in a mushroom. These symptoms can vary from slight gastrointestinal discomfort to death. The toxins present are secondary metabolites produced in specific biochemical pathways in the fungal cells. Mushroom poisoning is usually the result of ingestion of wild mushrooms after misidentification of a toxic mushroom as an edible species. The most common reason for this misidentification is close resemblance in terms of color and general morphology of the toxic mushrooms species with edible species.
To prevent mushroom poisoning, mushroom gatherers need to be very familiar with the mushrooms they intend to collect as well as with any similar-looking toxic species. In addition, edibility of mushrooms may depend on methods of preparation for cooking. Collectors also need to be well aware that edibility or toxicity of some species varies with geographic location.[

  1. There sure are a lot of toxic mushrooms out there. I'll make sure our DD is well-informed on this front.
