Celebrate Tell A Story Day
Tell a Story Day is celebrated in the United States, Scotland and the United Kingdom. The aim of the day to get participants telling, sharing and listening to each others stories. It is a celebration of the art of oral storytelling in all of its many forms, whether it be fiction or non-fiction, a tall tale, or folklore. The stories may be told from memory or from a book. Events can be held in community centres, churches, homes and gardens, hospitals, libraries, schools or more unusual venues!
The origin of the day is unknown, but there is surely a story to tell about it – maybe you can make one up for the next Tell a Story Day! For the day itself you can organize your own event with friends, family or colleagues and create a magical world of enchanting fairy tales, scary ghost stories or age-old family legends.

The only president to serve two non-consecutive terms tipped the scales at over 250 pounds, so it’s no wonder that he earned the nickname Uncle Jumbo. Stephen Grover Cleveland was the 22nd and 24th President of the United
States, and therefore the only individual to be counted twice in the numbering of the presidents. Grover Cleveland served as the mayor of Buffalo before becoming the governor of New York in 1882, where he became known by the
nickname “Uncle Jumbo” (his friends also called him Big Steve).

Cruise control was invented 1948 by Ralph Teetor, a mechanical engineer who was also an inventor. He was also blind, from the age of five. It would be another ten years before cruise control was commercially introduced.

Break out your best dots and dashes, it’s the birthday of Samuel Morse—co-inventor of the eponymous Morse Code. These days any Joe Schmoe can try his hand at transmitting lights, clicks, and tones to send a secret message. But this system of communication used to be a highly specialized field that required a license and a proclivity for spying on communists.

There may be hope for some elastic. A supplier in a nearby city (Richmond Hill) has some, and a gentleman from another city (Mississauga) whose wife also needs some for masks is willing to go pick some up and share. If anyone needs a good pattern for a Health Worker's Mask, here's one or three!
Pictures of the day
Caroline Rémy de Guebhard (27 April 1855 – 24 April 1929)
was a French anarchist, journalist, and feminist, best known
Peuple, taking control of the newspaper when his health
deteriorated. She left in 1888 after a confrontation with Marxist
journalist Jules Guesde, but continued to write for other
publications, promoting women's emancipation and denouncing
social injustices. This picture of Rémy is a carte de visite taken
by French photographer Nadar sometime between 1889 and
1899. The photograph, entitled "Séverine, debout, un poing sur
la hanche" ('Séverine, standing, a fist on her hip'), is in the
collection of the Bibliothèque Marguerite Durand in Paris.

Kids can make Mom an evergreen yarn bouquet to symbolize their everlasting love. Start by placing a green pipe cleaner parallel with the tines of a fork so that it extends 3 inches above the tines. Wrap yarn perpendicularly around all the tines. Fold the 3-inch section of pipe cleaner down over the yarn, slide everything off the fork, and wrap the two pieces of pipe cleaner together. Carefully cut the wrapped yarn and trim any scraggly ends. Repeat as desired. Wrap stems together with a length of ribbon.
