DIANE'S CORNER ... Celebrate Day of Pink
Bullying is never fun; it’s a cruel and terrible thing to do to someone. If you are being bullied, it is not your fault. No one deserves to be bullied, ever.Raini Rodriguez
The Day of Pink is the International Day against Bullying, Discrimination, Homophobia, Transphobia, and Transmisogyny across the world. We invite everyone to celebrate diversity by wearing a pink shirt and by organizing activities in their workplaces, schools, and communities.
History of the Day of Pink
The Day of Pink was started in Nova Scotia when two straight high school students saw a gay student wearing a pink shirt being bullied. The two students intervened but wanted to do more to prevent homophobic and transphobic bullying.
They decided to purchase pink shirts, and a few days later got everyone at school to arrive wearing pink, standing in solidarity. The result was that an entire school took a stand and began working together to prevent homophobic and transphobic bullying.
The campaign has continued to grow: it is now an international campaign that thrives in schools, workplaces, and communities. The Day of Pink and the conversations, awareness, and acceptance that stems from it are making a real difference in the lives of queer and trans youth. So let’s wear pink, spark some conversations, and inspire acceptance.
Joke of the Day
LEMON PICKING EXPERIENCE
The woman applying for a job in a Florida lemon grove seemed way too qualified for the job.
"Look Miss," said the foreman, "do you have any experience in picking lemons?"
"Well ... as a matter of fact, Yes!" she replied. "I've been married and divorced three times."

If You Were Born Today, April 8
You are a true pioneer with exceptionally strong business sense. You have little patience for slacking off and slowness. Quick-minded and generally thorough, you are also very independent, rarely asking for help. This trait can lead you to feel lonely at times. However, you are quick to help others if they sincerely need a hand. You make an excellent manager, and while you like to lead or do things on your own, you are not arrogant or overbearing. Famous people born today:
1460 Juan Ponce de LeĂ³n, Spanish explorer and conquistador who searched for the fountain of youth and the first European to discover Florida, born in SantervĂ¡s de Campos, Castile, Spain (d. 1521)
1892 Mary Pickford [Gladys Smith], Canadian actress (Poor Little Rich Girl), born in Toronto, Ontario (d. 1979)
1918 Betty [Bloomer] Ford, US 1st lady (1974-77) and founder of the Betty Ford Center clinic, born in Chicago, Illinois (d. 2011)

Coronavirus Style by Sylvia, CAN DO Correspondent
It's in times like these you realize on a very deep level, how important relationships are. I live alone in a small seniors apartment (well, if you don't count the budgie and the cat, who are both as skittish as any rescue animals). The whole building was like a mausoleum to begin with, due to the controlling nature of the property manager and her henchman (actually a lady superintendent).
I was quite surprised when a woman of acquaintance from years ago reached out to me. Working from home, she gave me three phone numbers and times she would be taking a break. Now this woman is like the little girl in Grade 6 that no-one liked because she ratted out every little thing with unabashed cheer, and then smiled at those who were lead to the coat closet to meet their lonely doom. Imagine that in a music group of seniors.
I was the actual originator of the group, and spent a good 10 to 14 hours weekly arranging music for the other members, and she was one of those who had no clue as to the key she sang in, so every new song she wanted to sing was a surprise, and usually had to be arranged. Like Petula Clark's Downtown, only in strange keys amateur guitarists would not be familiar with. I just put up with her and other annoying people for a few years, but things were wearing thin (like tonal deafness, Altheimer's, politics, etc.), and a meeting was called. The leader (a male, of course) did nothing to stop the nastiness that arose, and a few months later, things were very obviously getting out of hand. One of my jobs was to arrange the lineup at the monthly performance. So I would juggle the artists and the flow of music so it blends, from one song to the next, making sure everyone got their two songs in. At the last performance I attended, before the last meeting I attended, Little Miss Sunshine decided to change the lineup around during the performance, cutting my songs out and sticking in an extra song of her own.
At the meeting I made it clear that this was not cool, that I wasn't spending all my free time on arranging music so she could cut people out of the lineup. She just looked at me with a blank face. Nothing was resolved, so I quit the group with a couple of other people. It was no surprise that attendance at those performances went plummeting. Now I am with a mixed group of mixed amateurs and professionals, and get my time in as a soloist and backup artist with audiences who do not fall asleep during performances.
So what am I to do with this woman whose only person in her life is her sister?
Absolutely nothing. Pray for her safety is about all I can muster. And think of my own sister, with whom I did not grow up. She cannot have a relationship with me because I remind her of our father, then she gets a headache. And there is other family stuff with which I had nothing to do, for which reason I wisely left home for far, far away at 18. But once when I visited her in in Indianapolis in 1991, I found this recipe in an old church cookbook she had. So I copied it and I tried it, and is it ever good! And every time I make it, I get to experience the memory of my beautiful, albeit distant, sister.

Saint Gregory the Illuminator Cathedral is the largest Armenian
Apostolic Church cathedral in the world. Located in the Armenian
capital Yerevan, construction started in 1997 and the consecration
took place on 23 September 2001, on the occasion of the 1,700th
anniversary of the proclamation of Christianity as the state religion
of Armenia. The building consists of three churches, the nave, with
seating for 1,700, and the side chapels of Saint Tiridates the King
and Saint Ashkhen the Queen, each of which has 150 seats; these
two royal figures provided crucial help to Saint Gregory the
Illuminator in his task of converting Armenia to Christianity. The
belfry tower is located above the entrance, and rooms for receptions
and church-related activities are provided on the lower floor.
