World Teachers’ Day aims to raise awareness of the importance of the role played by teachers all over the world. Joke of the Day

Make A Sentence

Inline image

A teacher called upon the classroom to make sentences with words previously chosen. The teacher smiled when Pete, a slow learner, raised his hand to participate during the challenge of making a sentence with the words: Defeat, Defense, Deduct, and Detail.

Pete stood thinking for a while, all eyes focused on him while his classmates awaited his reply. Smiling, he the proudly said, “Defeat of deduct went over defense before detail.”

DAILY SQU-EEK

If You Were Born Today, October 4

Overall a responsible and practical person, you are not, however, a stick in the mud. Your interests are many and varied, and you are skilled at presenting your ideas to others in a unique way. You are both an interesting and interested person, always learning, ever curious, but also rather stubborn when it comes to your ideas and opinions. Under pressure, you might feel the need to make up stories, as your reputation is important to you, and you instinctively fear misrepresentation. Your slow yet steady approach to achieving your goals assures you success, even if it doesn't come early. Your ideas are ahead of their time, and others tend to respect your advice. Famous people born today:

1713 Denis Diderot, French enlightenment philosopher (EncyclopĂ©die), born in Langres, Champagne (d. 1784)

1902 Ray Kroc, American fast food entrepreneur (McDonald's) and owner of baseball's San Diego Padres, born in Oak Park, Illinois (d. 1984)

(Not So) Totally Useless Facts of The Day:

Because Gmail first launched on April 1st of 2004, many people thought it was an April Fools' Day prank.

There's actually a response to the saying "Liar, liar, pants on fire." It's "I don't care, I don't care, I can buy another pair."

The first chocolate bar was made in 1847. Before that,
chocolate was only a drink.

Do Something Nice Day

5th October – Do Something Nice Day.

Take a look at the world, it sucks right? Wars, pandemics, famine, door to door salesmen, illness, suffering, general intolerance from even the most well off individuals. Today do one thing to make the world a better place, plant some flowers, buy someone a cup of coffee or actually make eye contact with the homeless people you ignore on a daily basis. Don’t be a jerk, do something – anything – nice.

Hemp CBD for Pain Relief: How CBD Works to Manage Pain

Cannabidiol, generally known as simply CBD is a chemical found in the cannabis Sativa plant aka hemp or marijuana. Cannabis contains over 480 compounds. Of those, around 66 classify as ‘cannabinoids’. CBD and delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol or THC happen to be the two most active ones.

Cannabidiol extracted from hemp contains very small traces of THC. CBD products carrying no more than 0.3% THC content is legal for sale and distribution in the US. Cannabidiol derived from marijuana is largely illegal other than a few medical exceptions.

How does it work?

While there are not enough research papers available, cannabidiol does seem to exhibit antipsychotic effects in general as well as in schizophrenia. One study highlights MRI results that establish the relationship between CBD’s antipsychotic effects in relation to psychotomimetic effects of delta-THC involving the temporal cortex and striatum, both of which are linked with psychosis.

Interestingly enough, CBD or cannabidiol also tends to block various psychoactive effects that are caused by THC (even though both belong to the family of cannabinoids).

CBD oil for Pain Management – How Effective is It?

There are some research studies and plentiful anecdotes where countless people have found relief from chronic conditions such as fibromyalgia, MS, and pain associated with periods and endometriosis with CBD oil.

1. Arthritis pain

Management of arthritis pain continues to be a top reason behind CBD’s popularity and sales. In fact, according to a study published in the European Journal of Pain – the researchers noticed a significant reduction in inflammation and pain markers after administering CBD oil on rats with arthritis for 4 days.

The study was a definite success and an indication of the possible future of CBD for pain management. A lot of people do use it as an herbal remedy for painful episodes. But, there’s a need for more elaborate studies on humans to confirm these findings and make them official.

2. Endometriosis and Period Cramps

Endometriosis – one of the most common and painful diseases remains largely understudied. It’s often dubbed as ‘the mystery disease’. Being a highly painful condition, many women struggle with finding a natural or medical remedy to fight the often paralyzing pain.

It has been noticed – based on plentiful anecdotes and online mentions that many women do find a great deal of comfort after using CBD oil while dealing with endometriosis and period pain often dubbed as ‘killer cramps’.

3. Epilepsy

This is probably the only condition that is officially treated using CBD. That’s right. Not long ago, the FDA approved the first-ever mainstream drug designed to treat epilepsy made from cannabidiol. It’s good news because that shows more research is going into studying the therapeutic benefits of CBD. Episodes of epileptic seizures can be rather painful for which the said medicine carrying CBD can be helpful.

4. MS (Multiple Sclerosis)

A common autoimmune disease, MS affects the entire body through nerves that connect to the brain. Among the most common symptoms of MS is muscle spasm which can be quite significant in an occasional patient.

According to this particular report – the application of CBD oil on a short-term basis showed a reduction in the levels and the intensity of spasticity that the subjects felt. Many people reported feeling less pain, which is why there’s a need for more studies to further verify and establish these findings.

5. General chronic pain

Based on the compilation of results coming from studies and their systematic reviews covering dozens of trials – it becomes conclusively evident that cannabis could indeed effectively manage chronic pain in an ‘au naturale’ way.

According to the above research, the application of CBD oil could reduce inflammation and pain markers.

The research further stipulated that subjects did not develop any kind of tolerance to CBD effects thus eliminating the need to up the dose regularly.

A word of caution

We already mentioned that other than Epidiolex, no other CBD product can be sold in the U.S. for any medical claims or therapeutic benefits.

Therefore, it’s imperative that you buy CBD oils and products based on hemp; preferably IHF LLC Hemp flower. Also, make sure it carries no less than 0.3% THC for the same might be illegal and may also induce unexpected effects.

Pictures of the Day

The Tortoise Trainer is an oil-on-canvas painting created by

the Turkish artist Osman Hamdi Bey between 1906 and 1907.

It depicts a dervish contemplating several tortoises roaming the

floor of an upper-storey room in what may be the Green

Mosque in Bursa. He wears a skullcap wrapped round with a

sash, and a long, red robe with embroidered border. In his left

hand he holds a ney and on his back hangs a small kettledrum;

he is attempting to train the animals with these musical

instruments rather than by the use of force. In the painting, Bey

satirises the slow and ineffective attempts at reform in the

Ottoman Empire. The work is now located in the Pera Museum

in Istanbul.

Even a purely moral act that has no hope of any immediate and visible political effect can gradually and indirectly, over time, gain in political significance. -Vaclav Havel, writer, Czech Republic president (5 Oct 1936-2011)
