Celebrate Say Something Nice Day
Say Something Nice Day began in Charleston, South Carolina, when the Mayors of North Charleston and Charleston came together with members of the Charleston-Atlantic Presbytery and the South Carolina Baptist Convention to create a day to be kind to the special people in our lives, like our children. It’s also a day to remember and celebrate people, who provide us with a variety of services, such as bus drivers, healthcare workers and teachers. And, it’s a great opportunity to apologize to people that we might have wronged or hurt through our behavior. The aim of this special day is to fight against unkindness, bullying and the lack of politeness that dominates society today. The creators hope that this one day of pleasantness will grow, until people are nice to each other everyday.
Set an example and encourage your children to be nice to each other on this day.

History
Former Slave Isabella Baumfree Becomes Sojourner Truth (1843)
Born into slavery in New York, Baumfree had four different masters before escaping with her infant daughter in 1826, one year before the state abolished slavery. She traveled and championed abolition, changing her name in 1843. Her dictated memoirs were published as The Narrative of Sojourner Truth: A Northern Slave. In 1851, she delivered what is now known as the "Ain't I a Woman?" speech at the Women's Rights Convention.
Dr. Henry Faulds (1843)
Faulds was a Scottish doctor and scientist who pioneered the study of fingerprints as forensic evidence. He first became interested in fingerprints after noticing the imprints left by craftsmen's fingertips in ancient pottery. Convinced that fingerprints could be a valuable investigative tool, Faulds unsuccessfully tried to convince Scotland Yard to employ his methods. His findings went largely unnoticed during his lifetime. |

You are a true artist at heart. You see the world around you in a unique way, which endears you to others. You are thoughtful and curious. At times moody and at other times inspired, you can also vacillate between great practicality and idealism. You might find that following the dictates of your head, which is often your choice, gets you into more trouble than following your heart. Trusting your intuition is the challenge. Up Cycle Your Empty Food Cans To This!
hometalk
This is an easy and frugal garden craft for anyone to do and it actually can serve a purpose. Kids, seniors, garden club members or anyone that wants to be creative can re-purpose used food cans into garden accessory containers. You will see that I also recycled one can into a lovely DIY hostess gift.
SHOP for seed packets that would make a pretty label. This was the fun part. Our local home improvement store had hundreds of varieties to choose from. The prices varied from 79 cents to $2.49. Look for colorful images that are large enough to fit a food can. I tried to select seed packets that didn’t have a lot of writing on them or packets that I could cut the image out easily
MOD PODGE the back of the image with a sponge brush and then place onto the can. I also put mod podge on the can where I was placing the new image label but it isn't necessary. The image can be easily re-positioned if at first it isn’t aligned. If you are a crafter, most likely you have mod podge and sponge brushes in your craft supplies but if you don’t, you can easily find both at Wal-mart or your local craft store.
SPRAY VARNISH on the inside and outside of each can to help prevent rusting since most likely these will be kept outdoors. It also helps seal the water based mod podge. Be sure to spray the varnish outdoors where it is well ventilated. I had this varnish in my art supplies but any protective spray varnish will work.
