Every day, animals are abandoned or placed into kennels, dependent on charities and goodwill. These organizations are strained beyond coping, and are desperate to raise awareness of the plight of homeless and abandoned animals. Homeless Animals Day aims to educate people about pet abandonment, feral animals and benefits or neutering domestic animals.

History
Leonard Bernstein Conducts His Final Concert (1990)
Less than two months before he died, Bernstein, a highly regarded American composer and conductor, conducted what would be his final concert. He had suffered from smoking-related lung problems for years, and his coughing fit partway through the Boston Symphony appearance that night nearly ended the performance. With his health declining, he officially retired in early October, and he died just five days later.
Orville Wright (1871)
Born and raised in Ohio. Orville was four years younger than his brother Wilbur. They were in the bicycle business when they began the aeronautic experiments that led to the first controlled, powered airplane flight in 1903. Wilbur died in 1912, and Orville sold his interest in their company three years later. He later served for 28 years on the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics, a precursor to NASA, before his death in 1948. |
Woodward Dream Cruise
Since 1995, the one-day Woodward Dream Cruise has featured a parade of cars driving down a 16-mile stretch of Woodward Avenue in the suburbs just north of Detroit, Michigan. Owners of antique cars, muscle cars, custom cars, street rods, and special interest cars participate. More than 40,000 classic cars travel the route from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. The Dream Cruise has developed into a multi-community street festival, with entertainment stages, food and merchandise vendors, parades, and automotive displays.

Pitstone Windmill, believed to be the oldest windmill in the British Isles. A windmill is an engine powered by wind energy. In Europe, windmills have been used since the Middle Ages. They were developed from the 12th century, apparently from technology gained by crusaders who came into contact with windmills in the Middle East. Persian sources indicate windmill use as early as the 7th century BC. In the United States, the development of water-pumping windmills was a major factor in allowing the farming of vast areas of North America

Homemade Ice Cream Sandwiches
skiptomylou
These soft chewy cookies are the perfect consistency when frozen for ice cream sandwiches. They are also delicious on their own.
CAKE MIX COOKIE RECIPE
1 box Devil’s Food Cake Mix (I like Duncan Hines or Aldi’s Store brand best)
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 eggs
1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional for ice cream sandwiches but a must for the cookies without ice cream)
Mix together dry cake mix, 1/2 cup oil and 2 eggs. Stir in chocolate chips. I use a cookie scoop to make the balls. This recipe makes 20 cookies.
Bake cookies at 350 for about 11-13 minutes (Cookies are soft). Chill cookies completely before making ice cream sandwiches —-otherwise they are heavenly warm!
HOW TO MAKE HOMEMADE ICE CREAM SANDWICHES
To make ice cream sandwiches, take your favorite 1/2 gallon ice cream in a block and slice it into about 1 inch slices.
Using a glass the same diameter of your cookie cut out a circle of ice cream
Immediately place ice cream disc between two cookies and freeze!

CLEVER
The best and easiest way to pale a kiwi fruit. Works like a charm and it’s so simple. It also works on other fruits.
Grilling Season is Here!
Onion Magic
Before you start grilling your food, slice an onion in half. Then stick one half on a fork and rub along the top of your grill. This creates a non-stick layer, which will help stop your food from sticking to the grill. When you are done grilling, use the other half of the onion to scrub off the food remnants.
Light it Up
Out of kindling? No problem, just reach for a bag of chips. Chips of any kind are pure hydrocarbons which are soaked in fat—and both are pretty much the perfect food for flame.
Soak
Making kebabs on wooden skewers? Soak the skewers in water for about 30 minutes before putting your fixings on them. This will avoid them catching fire!
Keep It On
Don’t waste time shucking your corn. Instead leave the husks on, trim off the excess silk at the top of the ear and grill as is. In 30 minutes time you’ll have juicy burn-free corn.
Ice Ice Baby
While grilling put an ice cube on your hamburgers to create juicier patties.
Ring My Bell
Do your stuffed bell peppers keep tipping over? Stop the madness! Grab some tinfoil, roll it into a coil and then wrap it around the base of your pepper creating a ring. This will keep it in place.
Add Juice
Spray your meat with apple juice. The sweet liquid will keep your meat tender and moist as well as add extra flavor.
Organize
Put all your condiments in an empty muffin tin. It’s easier than having to carry them all out.
Surprise
Tired of plain burger buns or just looking for something new to BBQ? Surprise everyone by grilling our garlic Texas toast. This easy crowd pleaser is ready in a minute. Just place the toast on the grill for about 30 seconds each side and you’re done!
