A box of new crayons! Now they’re all pointy, lined up in order, bright and perfect. Soon they’ll be a bunch of ground down, rounded, indistinguishable stumps, missing their wrappers and smudged with other colors. Sometimes life seems unbearably tragic.

There is magic between the covers of a coloring book, a type of magic that can take us away and walk us into a million worlds. Further, coloring books make artists of us all, whether we decide to be Rembrandt with his realistic colors and patterns, or Picasso with his odd cubist designs and surreal colors. Coloring Book Day encourages us to get back to the days of our youth, and dive between the pages of a coloring book.
The first coloring book was established in the late 1800’s by the McLoughlin Brothers when they first released ‘The Little Folks Painting Book’. From that point forward they continued to produce books of this sort right up until the 1920’s, when they joined forced with the Milton Bradley Company. Coloring Book Day encourages the recognition of this long history of coloring books and the joy they can bring to children and adults alike.
That’s right, adults can color too! There are highly detailed books specifically designed to be used by adults. No, these books aren’t pornographic in nature (well, not all of them), but they are definitely intricate and beautiful, and that’s before you start applying color to the page. Coloring books have been used for everything from educational purposes (coloring books are in every school), to aiding in therapy and health. There are even special coloring books intended to help a child what is going to happen to them during surgery, a little understanding can assuage a large amount of fear.

History
Henry Hudson Discovers Hudson Bay (1610)
After several failed attempts to find a northeast passage to Asia, Hudson, a veteran sea captain, sailed west and began probing N America to find a way through it by ship. In 1610, he discovered Hudson Bay but lingered too long and became trapped there by winter ice. When the weather warmed, Hudson wanted to continue exploring, but his starved and diseased crew refused. They mutinied and set Hudson, his son, and a few others adrift in a small boat without food or water.

Feast of Forgiveness
The Festa del Perdono, or Feast of Forgiveness, is observed annually in Assisi, Italy, where St. Francis built his humble hermitage, known as the Porciúncula ("little portion"), in the 13th century. Porciúncula also refers to the plenary indulgence that used to be given to those who visited this sanctuary on August 2, the date set by Pope Honorius III in 1221. Although in the beginning the indulgence could only be gained in the Porciúncula, the privilege was eventually extended to all churches having a connection with the Franciscan order.
Astronomers May Have Found an Exomoon, and Hubble Is Going to Check
The first evidence for an exomoon — a moon orbiting a planet orbiting a distant star — may have been spotted in data from the Kepler space telescope. But surprisingly, exomoons in general may be rare, at least around planets close to their stars.READ MORE:

one of my favorite sites on the internet is freecycle.org.
freecycle.org is a FREE website you sign up with in the community nearest you. its efforts are all to connect people looking to get rid of all types of things (appliances, furniture, toys, books, bric a brac, etc), with people who need certain items. this international organization keeps belongings out of landfills and puts it in the hands of those who truly need or want the items you no longer want to keep!
there are only two things to do when it comes to freecycle .. put out emails to the group that
either OFFER or WANT things. then it's between you two to make arrangements for pick up. after that, i always send a thank you note so everyone knows the item is no longer being offered.
Right or wrong, you win! Click on an answer, and every day you do, we’ll provide kibble to animal shelters to help feed their hungry dogs and cats.
Play every day – the more you play, the more kibble for the dogs and cats - plus click for litter to go to shelters, too!!
This is what I receive every day:

Pictures of the day
The Madonna of the Book is a small painting by the Italian Renaissance artist Sandro Botticelli that was executed in tempera on panel between 1480 and 1483. It depicts Mary and the Christ Child seated by a window, with Mary absorbed in a book of hours (prayer book for laymen) and the Child gazing at his mother. The work is held at the Poldi Pezzoli Museum in Milan.

DIY Soothing Aloe Vera Ice Cubes
inspiredgathering
After a long day in the summer sun, your skin could use some soothing nourishment. These aloe vera ice cubes not only cool and sooth the skin, but provide instant relief from the sun.
Aloe vera gel helps skin retain moisture and aids in the prevention of peeling. Lavender essential oil helps speed the healing of sun burned skin. Combine the two and freeze for a summer-time refreshment that your skin will appreciate.
INGREDIENTS:
- 1 bottle (16 oz.)of aloe vera gel
- Lavender essential oil, optional
- Ice cube tray
DIRECTIONS:
- Pour aloe vera gel into individual sections of an ice cube tray. You can fill the sections or leave them half full if you’d like smaller cubes.
- Place 2-3 drops of lavender essential oil in each section; stir gently with a popsicle stick or toothpick.
- Gently tap the bottom of the ice cube tray on a flat surface to compact the gel. Freeze for at least 2 hours.
- To use: remove an aloe vera ice cube from the tray and rub on skin for an after-sun refresher.

Uses For A Pencil
simplify3
1. Use them as chop sticks. It is best to not sharpen them before in order to avoid any further accidents.
2. Use two to play drums. Just synchronize and start playing.
3. Good for sword fighting. Mini sword duels are the best when having less work or when you just want to play with your kids in the house on a rainy day.
4. Hippie Hairdo holder. Girls use pencils to quickly arrange their hair or you get a funky punky look. If you want to look cooler, use colored or funny design pencils.
5. Door stop. Ideal when you just want to get outside for a few moments and do not want to take the key or to be locked outside.
6. Clean your muddy shoe treads. After a short run in the park or a short trip in the mountains it’s time to clean the shoes and this is no easy work. But if you use the pencil you will finish the job faster.
7. Chew them when nervous. Or just because you have a bad habit that you can get over it.
8. Funny poses. Stick them in your ears, up your nose or under your lip just like fangs. This is a quick and easy way to lighten up someone’s mood.
9. Darts arrows. Sharp them so they are quite pointy and play darts from close range
10. Measuring tool. When you have no other measuring tools around, the pencil is quite a saver.
11. Clean your ears with the erasers. Kind of yucky, but many do it. Look at your colleagues to see if you catch them red handed.
12. Pinwheel. Make one out of paper and stick it with a pin onto the pencil’s eraser
13. Fetch stick for your dog. Not very fancy but the dog will love it. Hopefully the pencil will last in the dog’s mouth so you can play longer.
14. Back scratcher. It’s so hard to reach sometimes to the place where you have that awful itch but the pencil will save the day.
15. Cat toy. I guarantee that the cat will play with it for hours and could even get addicted. Mine did!
16. Magic wand. This is a cheap and handy object that with a few add-ons can become a cute, magic wand in the hands of your little girl.
17. Reach for something in places out of reach. Like under the bed, the closet, between two furniture objects etc.
18. Foot scratcher so you don’t have to take off your shoe. I can not stand those itches. I feel the need to scratch immediately. I guess is better to scratch with the pencil rather to take your shoes off, right?
19. Pointer. This is a no-brainer.
20. Dexterity exercises. When I am tired I find this quite relaxing and it also helps my reflexes.
21. Time waster. You can do this by simply bouncing the pen in the eraser as many times as you can (without getting extremely bored).
22. Use it as a plane and fly it in the air.
23. Button pusher. For the lazy of us!
24. Kindling. You might need more than two-three pencils for this.
25. Buy more pencils and play pick up stick with them. It will be fun.
26. Prop something light with it.
27. Use it as a weapon. If is sharpened it can work as a small knife.
28. As a ruler. You can use it to draw a straight line.
29. Bookmark. Not the best solution but it works.
30. Make a hole in soil to plant seeds. It’s quick and effective
31. Plug up a hole.
32. Stir drinks. Still, use it at home not at the bar.
33. Support a plant. Is very useful for small plants
34. Make holes in plastic wrap that is around new products. Quite useful when you do not have scissors.
35. “Cut” the duct tape on sealed boxes.
36. Push stuff down into the kitchen sink if it gets caught in the drain.
37. Sculpture. Just get a knife and start crafting.
38. Long dice. Write the number on each side and good luck!
39. Ice remover. Be careful not to scratch the surface. Make a test on a smaller, hidden zone.
40. Miniature sundial. You can do this with your kids.
41. Splint. This is can be part of a first aid treatment applied quickly.
42. Colored pencil shavings can be used to make a nice picture.
43. Frame for a small teepee. To remember your scouts days.
44. The base of a miniature water vehicle like a raft. It may work, why not?
45. 8 pencils can be used to hold toes apart while polish dries. It may be difficult to walk, though.
46. Grab gross things with two pencils. This doesn’t need more explanation.
47. Search with a pen among nails, screws and other pointy, sharp objects.
48. Use a pencil to roll out the last drops in the toothpaste tube or else.
49. The graphite is a dry lubricant and it can loosen up sticky locks.
50. Use a bit of the eraser to hold your pierced earrings into the ear if you just lost the back piece.
51. Duplicate a pattern. Place paper on an embossed wall panel, tile, or incised woodwork and lightly scribble over the surface to transfer the details.
52. Rub out grime. Some pencils erasers contain pumice. You can use the mild abrasive to shine a brass doorknob, remove scuff marks from a tile floor, or scour off sticker residue on a window.
53. Writing in the sand. You can write a sweet declaration for your lover in the sand at a glance. All you have to do is to have the pencil with you
54. Cuticle stick. Ladies know what I am talking about.
55. Get stuff out of the heater vent. Be careful not to drop the pencil in there as well.
56. Tracing shapes. For fun or for your project.
