Celebrate Social Security Day
Wherever we are and whatever we do we’re a small part of a greater society and there’s no better indicator of our togetherness than a social security system, which is why we should celebrate Social Security Day.
Anyone can fall on hard times, or have a period during which a little help doesn’t go amiss, which is why these support systems exist. A good way to celebrate Social Security Day is to think about the more unfortunate members of society and do something for them.
Cooking a traybake or a big stew and taking it to a soup kitchen is one good idea. Another good idea is to volunteer for a shift in that same kitchen. Send the kids out to mow the lawn of an elderly or infirm neighbour, or have a yard sale and donate the proceeds to a homeless charity. Have fun, but be generous as well.

Car Keys
They weren't in my pockets. Suddenly I realized I must have left them in the car.
Frantically, I headed for the parking lot. My husband has scolded me many times for leaving my keys in
the car's ignition. He's afraid that the car could be stolen.
the car's ignition. He's afraid that the car could be stolen.
As I looked around the parking lot, I realized he was right. The parking lot was empty.
I immediately called the police. I gave them my location, confessed that I had left my keys in the car, and that it had been stolen.
Then I made the most difficult call of all to my husband: "I left my keys in the car and it's been stolen!"
There was a moment of silence. I thought the call had been disconnected, but then I heard his voice, "Are you kidding me?" he barked, "I dropped you off!"
Now it was my turn to be silent. Embarrassed, I said, "Well, come and get me."
He retorted, "I will, as soon as I convince this cop that I didn't steal your damn car!"
Word of the Day
Aunt Tom
MEANING:
noun: A woman considered to be a traitor to a cause.
ETYMOLOGY:
Coined as a feminine version of Uncle Tom. Earliest documented use: 1956.
NOTES:
There’s no such character as Aunt Tom in the book Uncle Tom’s Cabin. Uncle Tom’s wife is actually named Chloe. The term Aunt Jemima is also used sometimes as a synonym for Aunt Tom. The term could be derogatory and offensive, applied to a Black woman who is seen as servile to White people.
USAGE:
“When [Phyllis] Schlafly suggested the reason there were so few women in Congress was that they weren’t willing to do the work to win elections and were more interested in having babies, [Betty] Friedan fired back by calling her ‘a traitor to your sex, an Aunt Tom’.”

Copycat Kentucky Kernel Seasoning
I have heard this is based on the seasoning used in Kentucky Fried Chicken’s restaurants, but my husband worked for them and brought home a bag. NOT!!! There may have been 11 herbs and spices, but most of it was salt and pepper because it was mostly white with black grains.
But this has gotten good reviews, and since it is not available in Canada, thought I would try it as the copycat KFC is disappointing. Well, I was pleasantly surprised by this, and am enjoying using it a lot, especially as I make a lot of vegetarian patties.
In a food processor put:
3 T. brown sugar (packed)
3 T. onion powder
3 T. parsley
2 T. chicken or vegetable broth powder
2 T. garlic powder
2 T. salt
1 T. oregano
1 T. paprika
1 T. rosemary
1 T. sage
1-1/2 t. thyme
1 t. ginger
1 t. marjoram
1 t. pepper
Run processor until all the dried herbs and powders are uniformly fine. Keep it in an air-tight jar.
To use for breading, add 2 T. seasoning mix to 1 cup of flour in a paper bag or large Zip-Lock and shake well; then add your chicken or fish and shake again. If I have enough left over to do another mean, I just keep the Zip-Lock in the freezer.

FRIDAY'S INTERESTING FACTS
Eating carrots can turn your skin orange.
Called carotenemia, this can happen if you eat three large carrots or more every day for a long period of time.
This is because the carrots give the body too much beta-carotene, which causes the changing color of your skin.

Elsie Leslie (August 14, 1881 – October 31, 1966) was an
American actress, the country's first child star and the
highest-paid and most popular child actress of her era. She
came to prominence in 1887 with her performance in Editha's
Burglar opposite E. H. Sothern at the Lyceum Theatre in New
York. She achieved further fame with her roles in Little Lord
Fauntleroy in 1888 and The Prince and the Pauper in 1890.
Leslie was a great letter writer, maintaining a correspondence
with leading actors, actresses and statesmen. Although most
of her correspondents were adult, two were girls nearer her
own age: Eleanor Roosevelt and Helen Keller. She took a
break from acting, returning to the stage in 1898, but did not
manage to recapture the old magic as an adult. This
photograph from 1899, taken by Zaida Ben-Yusuf, shows
Leslie playing the role of Lydia Languish in Richard Brinsley
Sheridan's play The Rivals.
