Celebrate Guinness World Record Day
The Montana Territory was an organized incorporated territory of the United States that existed from May 26, 1864, when it was split from the Idaho Territory, until November 8, 1889, when it was admitted as the 41st state in the Union as the state of Montana. The capitals of the territory were Bannack (1864–1865), Virginia City (1865–1875) and Helena (1875–1889). This picture is a historical depiction of the Montana Territory's coat of arms, as illustrated by American engraver Henry Mitchell in State Arms of the Union, published in 1876 by Louis Prang. The shield depicts a landscape of mountains, plains and forests by the Great Falls of the Missouri River. A plow, a pick and a shovel are depicted in the foreground, representing the territory's industries. Below the shield is the Spanish motto Oro y plata, meaning 'Gold and silver'. The same design is featured in the current seal of Montana.

Celebrate Guinness World Record Day
I think if you come first with a new world record, that is the best.Haile Gebrselassie
World Records aren’t set every day, but world records for new types of things can be. Whether you’re trying to spend the most time hovering a table tennis ball over your mouth (6.35 seconds is the current record) or spend the longest time holding your breath (22 minutes, held by Stig Severinsen) Guinness World Record Day encourages you to stretch the ends of human endurance and creativity, and set that new world record!
History of Guinness World Record Day
In 1951 an argument was held between Sir Hugh Beaver and his fellow hunting mates in North Slob in County Wexford, Ireland. What was the argument about you ask? Which bird was the fastest game bird in Europe, of course.
While we now know that the fastest game bird is the plover, it cast light on an issue about available reference books. None of them compared flight speeds of various birds, something we can’t imagine he was terribly surprised by. This was something that Sir Hugh was determined to change, and change it he did.
He got together with Norris and Ross McWhirter to create the first ever compilation of record, well, everything they could get their hands on. So it was that the first 1000 copies of the Guinness Book of Records were printed in 1954.
The book was hugely successful, and thus the legacy that is the Guinness Book of World Records was born and has continued to be reprinted every year, ever since.
Guinness World Record Day was established to give people a day to focus on challenging existing records or putting forth a new record to be put into the books. That latter is for the truly ambitious, but it’s entirely possible!

A NEW MACHINE
Went to the gym and there's a new machine.
I used it for an hour and felt sick.
Its good though, it does everything.

Word of the Day
manumission
MEANING:
noun: Release from slavery, servitude, or restraint.
ETYMOLOGY:
From Latin manumittere (to free), from manus (hand) + mittere (to let go). Ultimately from the Indo-European root man- (hand), which also gave us manual, manage, maintain, manicure, maneuver, manufacture, manuscript, command, manure, manque, legerdemain, and mortmain. Earliest documented use: 1452.
USAGE:
“It wasn’t the menacing red lights of the bygone peripheral [Kinect] that intrigued me, nor the unremarkable games it birthed, but its mandate of manumission. When paired with an Xbox, it urged us all to leave the controller on the couch and physicalize our intentions instead.”

Personal relationships are a part of your life in which you experience many ups and downs. Not always easy to live with, you can sometimes be quite set in your ways. You are very perceptive and intuitive, and your dedication is tremendous. Persistence is one of your finest traits. Famous people born today:

(Not So) Totally Useless Facts of The Day:
Harry Houdini
Harry Houdini was a famed magician/illusionist who became popular at the turn into the 20th century. He was also involved in World War I. Houdini would train American soldiers and show them how to escape handcuffs, in case they were caught by the Germans.
Henry John Deutschendorf is definitely not a name that any record company would have an artist use as their stage name. A member of one of his favorite musical acts, The New Christy Minstrels also agreed, and urged the folk singer to adopt a more marketable name.
He chose John Denver and began his musical career. Denver recorded approximately 300 songs including his signature songs "Take Me Home, Country Roads", "Annie's Song", "Rocky Mountain High", "Calypso", "Thank God I'm a Country Boy", and "Sunshine on My Shoulders".
A longtime aviator, he died in a plane crash in 1997.
Sweden On A Sunday Morning
September 3, 1967 started out as the typical Sunday morning in Sweden. Except for one little detail. This was the day that Swedish officials decided to switch from driving on the left side to driving on the right side of the road. Apparently not everyone was aware of this switch. There was chaos, confusion, and crashes.

Wal-Mart Greeter - You Never Know
You just have to appreciate this one.Young people forget that we old people had a career before we retired ….
Charley, a new retiree-greeter at Wal-Mart, just couldn't seem to get to work on time. Every day he was 5, 10, 15 minutes late. But he was a good worker, really tidy, clean-shaven, sharp-minded and a real credit to the company and obviously demonstrating their “OldePerson Friendly" policies.
One day the boss called him into the office for a talk."Charley, I have to tell you, I like your work ethic, you do a bang-up job when you finally get here; but your being late so often is quite bothersome." "Yes, I know boss, and I am sorry and am working on it." "Well good, you are a team player. That's what I like to hear.”
“Yes sir, I understand your concern and I will try harder. Seeming puzzled, the manager went on to comment, “I know you're retired from the Armed Forces. What did they say to you there if you showed up in the morning late so often?
"The old man looked down at the floor, then smiled. He chuckled quietly, then said with a grin,"They usually saluted and said, Good morning, Admiral, can I get your coffee, Sir?"

OPTICAL ILLUSION
Look at the center of the image for about 30 seconds. Then quickly shift your gaze to somewhere with a white background.
You should see an afterimage of the US flag with the correct colors! This happens because your eye reverses the colors in afterimages.
