Celebrate Simplicity Day
”In character, in manner, in style, in all things, the supreme excellence is simplicity.”
~ Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
~ Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
We live in a complicated world, with taxes and devices and every imaginable complication the world can provide. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could just take some time to keep things simple? To winnow life down to the bare essentials and hold onto it like the precious thing it is? Simplicity Day encourages you to do just that, to let go of all of life’s complications and live a day… simple.
History of Simplicity Day
Simplicity Day was born out of a need to be free from the complications of the world and to allow ourselves to just be simple. Celebrate life through simplicity by turning off your devices, getting rid of complicated things and just let life be about living for a day.
Simplicity Day was born out of a need to be free from the complications of the world and to allow ourselves to just be simple. Celebrate life through simplicity by turning off your devices, getting rid of complicated things and just let life be about living for a day.
One of the great conundrums of the modern world is that the more opportunities and options you have the less happy you’re going to be. Some of the happiest people in the world have been determined to be those who live in uncivilized areas concerning themselves only with what they’re going to eat that day and where a good place to sleep is.
We can learn much from them, though few of us would want to go to such extremes. However, we can all benefit from just cutting out the things that make our lives difficult. Simplicity Day is about getting rid of these complications and culling from your life what doesn’t bring you joy.

This Day in History
Josiah Wedgwood (1730)
An English potter, Wedgwood greatly improved the quality of contemporary pottery, specializing in cream-colored earthenware made famous by his Wedgwood company. Because smallpox had permanently weakened one of his knees, he concentrated on designing pottery rather than making it. He built a factory town, called Etruria, in 1769, and his methods transformed pottery from a minor industry into one of enormous aesthetic appeal. He was also an active abolitionist.
Orange Day (Orangemen's Day)
Sometimes referred to simply as The Twelfth, this is the anniversary of the Battle of Boyne. After James II, who was Roman Catholic, was deposed in 1668 by William of Orange, a Protestant, each side raised an army and clashed on the banks of the Boyne River. The Protestants won a decisive victory and formed the Orange Order, committed to maintaining the link with Protestant England. As Irishmen left Ireland and England for the New World, lodges of Orangemen were formed in Canada and the United States, where Orange Day is still observed by Protestant Irish. |

CHALLENGING JOURNEY
This photograph was taken from Dhaka’s airport rail station during the Eid vacation. People were returning to their village homes to spend Eid with families, and the rush at the last hour was immense. One man caught my attention: he was dangling on a train’s handle with his family, trying to get inside the train. At that time, rain started and the train began to slowly move. The family had tickets to board the train, but couldn’t get to their seats. There are many people like him, who come to Dhaka for work—leaving their families and home villages—so when they get vacation, they don’t want to miss the opportunity to spend time with dear ones, no matter what. Location: Dhaka, Bangladesh

Cut yarn, thread end through rem 5 sts, pull up and secure - mattress sew up seam stuffing at same time.
Work many short stitches in fig colour shades all over the fruit - there is no particular method as long as each stitch is worked in a similar direction - I think of it similar to machine embroidery only by hand!
Note: this makes a round fig - if you want the effect of a cut fig then push in one side as you work embroidery over it
