Celebrate World Fiddle Day
On this day, it’s time to celebrate the music of one of the world’s most favorite string instruments, the violin. Or the fiddle, as it is sometimes affectionately known.
World Fiddle Day happens once a year and is meant to celebrate everything that everyone loves about the chirpy, fun and feisty art of fiddle music. You’ll see it being celebrated on the third Saturday of each May.
Around the world, this day is celebrated with dancing, music, and of course plenty of fiddle playing!
The History of World Fiddle Day
This day was founded in 2012 by one Caoimhin Mac Aoidh, a professional fiddler from Donegal in Ireland. The day was birthed from a deep respect for one of the most expert and revered violin makers in history.
This month was chosen to coincide with the anniversary of the death of the Italian violin craftsman Antonio Stradivari’s way back in 1737. Stradivari is today considered the most significant creator of violins in history, with his surviving instruments today seen as the most prized and finest ever created. Although he also made the larger string instruments cellos and violas, it’s the violins which he lovingly crafted that he is most well-known and remembered for.
Though only a couple of hundred of his works still exist, they have been known to capture some huge prices at auction and are especially sought-after amongst professional violin players.

History
Nine-Year-Old Cynthia Ann Parker Kidnapped by Comanches (1836)
Parker was a young girl when Comanches raided Fort Parker—located in what is now Texas—and massacred its inhabitants, capturing her in the process. Raised by her captors, she was adopted into the tribe and went on to bear the last great Comanche chief, Quanah Parker. At first, Quanah led raids on frontier settlements, but after his defeat and surrender, he learned to live alongside his white neighbors and eventually became the richest Native American in the US. |
Lorraine Hansberry (1930)
At just 29 years of age, African-American playwright Lorraine Hansberry secured her place in theatrical history when she became the first black woman to have a play produced on Broadway. Her acclaimed A Raisin in the Sun, a penetrating psychological study of a working-class African-American family in Chicago, was inspired in part by the discrimination and legal battle Hansberry's own family faced upon buying a home in a white Chicago neighborhood.

You can be especially productive this year, as in many ways you are starting fresh, but you have a rather clear vision of what you want to accomplish. Your inner needs tend to be mirrored by external events, and vice versa, which helps to boost your confidence and happiness levels. You more readily accept that challenges are part of the natural cycle in life, which in turn helps you to meet them with confidence and to worry less. You are likely to be on top of your game this year for the most part, and positive connections with others can be made fairly easily. A comfortable level of personal popularity helps keep conflict to a minimum. With the ability to handle your emotions successfully, there will be less stress on both your mind and body. Epsom Salt for Your Plants - Inside and Out
hometalk
Did you know you could use Epsom salt for your outdoor plants and your houseplants? It says so right on the label!!
Here are four different ways to use Epsom salt to give your plants a boost and one way to keep pests off of your hosta plants.
1: Tomato Plant Booster
Add two Tablespoons of Epsom salt to one gallon of water
Shake
Feed your plants every two weeks with this booster for bigger tomatoes.
2: Pepper Plant Booster
Add one Tablespoon of Epsom salt to one gallon of water.
Pour into a spray bottle.
Spray directly onto the plant every two weeks and you'll yield more peppers per plant.
3: Hosta Pest Remover
Combine one cup ammonia and one cup Listerine original mouthwash.
Add one cup Epsom salt and stir until salt is dissolved.
Add one cup lemon Ajax dish soap. DO NOT STIR IN.
Pour mixture into a spray bottle.
Spray hosta, wetting the leaves.
Repeat as often as necessary.
4: Indoor Plant Booster
Add two Tablesoons of Epsom salt to one gallon water
Water your houseplants once a month.
5: Give Transplanted Plants a Boost
Fill the planter pot with potting soil halfway to the rim.
Add a pinch or two of Epsom salt.
Combine salt into the soil. You don't want the plant to directly touch the salt.
Plant the new transplant as you normally would.
