St. Patrick's Day - March 17, 2023

 DIANE'S CORNER ..

Celebrate St. Patrick's Day

Erin Go Bragh! Meaning ‘Ireland forever’, this phrase is often heard as part of the celebrations of St. Patrick’s Day. This is a time to show appreciation for Irish culture, whether by those who are actually Irish or those who simply love all things Irish, as well as for a man who sacrificed much to help other people.

Now It’s time for St. Patrick’s Day!

History of St. Patrick’s Day

Saint Patrick’s Day, colloquially St. Paddy’s Day or simply Paddy’s Day, is an annual feast day that celebrates Saint Patrick, the most commonly recognised of the patron saints of Ireland.

Many people don’t realize that Saint Patrick wasn’t actually Irish. Though his life’s work took place in Ireland, Patrick didn’t go there willingly. Instead, at the age of 16, he was kidnapped from his family’s British estate and taken to Ireland as a prisoner. He escaped after six years but eventually he showed excessive forgiveness when he went back as a missionary.

Saint Patrick’s Day is celebrated worldwide by those of Irish descent and increasingly by people of other ethnicities as well, notably in Argentina, Australia, New Zealand and North America. The celebration takes place on this day in honor of the death of St. Patrick, which took place more than 1500 years ago on March 17 in the year 492.

Celebrations for St. Patrick’s Day are generally themed around all things Irish and, by association, the color green. Both Christians and non-Christians celebrate the secular version of the holiday by wearing green, eating Irish food and/or green foods, imbibing Irish drink and attending parades, which have a particularly long history in the United States and in Canada.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar just sold his 4 championship rings, 3 MVP Trophies and other memorabilia for 2.8 million dollars with the proceeds going to a youth education program. Kareem said, “when it comes to choosing between storing a championship ring or trophy in a room, or providing kids with an opportunity to change their lives, the choice is pretty simple: Sell it all.”

PICTURES OF THE DAY

Agelena labyrinthica is a species of spider in the family

Agelenidae. It builds a flat-plate surface web connected to a

funnel-shaped retreat similar to a labyrinth, typically between

low-lying grass and vegetation. These webs can be at ground

level, or up to 1.5 metres (5 ft) from the ground. The species is

fairly common in Europe, and is typically concentrated in areas

near forests and low-lying vegetation, as well as in dry grassland.

This female A. labyrinthica spider was photographed in a funnel

web in Blankaart Nature Reserve near Diksmuide, Belgium. She

has lost one leg, which is trapped in the web.

A PING-PONG BALL IN A HOLE

Your last good ping-pong ball fell down into a narrow metal pipe imbedded in concrete one foot deep. How can you get it out undamaged, if all the tools you have are your tennis paddle, your shoe-laces, and your plastic water bottle, which does not fit into the pipe?

ANSWER:

All the tools are random things that are not going to help you. All you have to do is pour some water into the pipe so that the ball swims up on the surface. And if you say that you don't have any water, then think about what you drank today and if you can use that somehow

Car Window and Lock De-Icer Homemade Solution

Things You'll Need
  • Water
  • Isopropyl alcohol
  • Spray bottle

Step 1: Make the de-icer solution.

Add 1 cup of water and 1 cup of isopropyl alcohol to a clean spray bottle. Shake before each use.

Step 2: Spray your car's icy windshield with the de-icer.
Step 3: Let the de-icer work for a couple of minutes. The ice will start to melt quickly. Once the ice starts to melt, turn on your windshield wipers to help it along.

The de-icing should only take a few minutes, depending on how thick the ice on your car's windshield is. Now, onto the locks! Just spray the de-icing solution on your car locks and watch the ice melt away in seconds!

Your car will be ready to roll!

This amazing car de-icing solution works great on windshields, windows, locks and doors too, making getting on the road in the coldest temps a little easier!
