National Learn About Butterflies Day - March 14, 2022

DIANE'S CORNER ..

Celebrate Nat'l Learn About Butterflies Day

In keeping with the spirit of National Learn About Butterflies Day, celebrate by learning a little more about the wide range of butterflies. With over 20,000 types of butterflies worldwide today is the perfect day to learn about butterflies.

Their wing spans can range from 1/2 inch to 11 inches. Did you know that in their adult stage butterflies can live from a week up to a year, depending on the species? Many butterflies migrate over long distances the most famous migrations are those of the Monarch butterfly from Mexico to the northern USA and southern Canada, a distance of about 2500 to 3000 miles. That’s a lot of air miles!

RESURRECTION

The minister started his Children's Sermon with a question, "Who knows what a Resurrection is?"

Without missing a beat, a young boy says, "If you have one lasting more than 4 hours, call your physician."

The pastor is still laughing.

IDIOM OF THE DAY

What does the saying 'Beyond a shadow of a doubt' mean?

Meaning: If something's beyond a shadow of a doubt, then absolutely no doubts remain about it.

(Not So) TOTALLY USELESS FACTS OF THE DAY

Pearls melt in vinegar.

One of the reasons marijuana is illegal today is because cotton growers in the 30s lobbied against hemp farmers -- they saw it as competition. It is not chemically addictive as is nicotine, alcohol, or caffeine.

Ninety eight per cent of the weight of water is made up from oxygen.

PICTURES OF THE DAY

A plant's leaves are the primary sites for photosynthesis. The green colour is from chlorophyll, a pigment that absorbs the energy from sunlight falling on the leaf. The veins are the vascular tissue of the leaf, moving water into the leaf and the sap produced by photosynthesis back out.

The Stampede, Victoria Island, Canada

Muskoxen stampede over frozen tundra, unusual behaviour for these Arctic animals unless a pack of wolves is chasing them. The more common reaction of muskoxen is to face a predator in a line. If attacked by wolves, the group forms a compact circle, all facing out, with calves in the centre. What the wolves want to do is to spook the muskoxen and make them run, knowing that the weaker animals can be picked off by the pack.

ICE BREAKER
thanks, Kris
You can use 'ice breaker questions' to build a rapport, enabling strangers to engage in back and forth conversion. With a little practice and possibly a beer or two, you’ll be breaking more ice than the Titanic.

when freezing ground meat - put into Ziploc and gently score with a chopstick or flat utensil so you can break pieces off without defrosting the whole thing. this also works well with thick sauces.

A THOUGHT FOR TODAY:
The ideals which have lighted my way, and time after time have given me new courage to face life cheerfully, have been Kindness, Beauty, and Truth. -Albert Einstein, physicist, Nobel laureate (14 Mar 1879-1955)
