Honesty Day - April 30, 2019

DIANE'S CORNER ... Celebrate Honesty Day
Image result for Honesty Day gif
If you’re like most people, you’re utterly sick of the complete lack of honesty that exists in the world today. Whether it’s companies using misleading language on their products (Blueberry Muffins, contain no blueberries) or politicians being incapable of telling the whole truth of a situation, our lives are utterly inundated with a world of people and companies trying to sell us a line. Honesty Day exists to encourage people from every walk of life, and especially those in charge, to try being honest with their constituents and customers.

History of Honesty Day

Former press secretary M. Hirsh Goldberg of Maryland brought this holiday into existence back in the 1990’s as part of the process of writing his book The Book of Lies: Fibs, Tales, Schemes, Scams, Fakes, and Frauds That Have Changed the Course of History and Affect Our Daily Lives. The concept for the day was simple, ask direct questions without ulterior motives, and expect answers of occasionally brutal honesty. While these situations create difficult relations between people sometimes, it’s the first step on the road to utterly healing wounds and creating clear communication that allows proper understanding.
Failing to be honest in relationships, in politics, and even in historical education has led to so many misunderstandings that we are all affected by them. When we speak with our friends and partners, we often choose to withhold certain words, not because they aren’t true, but because we can’t see past the hurt they’ll cause to the boils their lance by no longer being held within. While being honest on Honesty Day, you have to remember that being honest requires honesty with yourself first. Once you accept your true feelings and motivations, you can clearly speak with others, and do so with complete forthrightness.

Messier 81
Messier 81, also known as Bode's Galaxy, is a spiral galaxy about 12 million light years away in the constellation Ursa Major. It is about half the size of the Milky Way, with a diameter of 90,000 light years. Discovered by Johann Elert Bode on December 31, 1774, it has been studied extensively by astronomers due to its proximity, large size, and active galactic nucleus. Messier 81 can be viewed easily using binoculars and small telescopes, and under exceptional viewing conditions can be seen with the naked eye. The center of the galaxy has a supermassive black hole with around 70 million times the mass of the Sun.

Brown Butter Basted Steak
From the Bon Appétit Test Kitchen

Inline image
Yield : 2 servings

Ingredients

1 steak or 2 pork chops
Kosher salt
Freshly ground pepper
2 t. vegetable oil
3 T. unsalted butter
2 sprigs rosemary
2 garlic cloves, crushed
Flaky sea salt

Season steak generously with kosher salt and pepper and let sit at room temperature 1 hour.

Heat a dry large skillet, preferably cast iron, over medium-high, then add oil. As soon as oil is smoking, cook steak, turning every 2 minutes or so, until a deep brown crust forms and the internal temperature is a few degrees below your favored done-ness (120°–125° for medium-rare), 8–10 minutes.

Add butter, rosemary, and garlic to skillet, tilt pan toward you so that butter pools on one side, and use a large spoon to continually baste steak with butter. Continue until butter is no longer bubbling and it smells nutty and is beginning to brown, about 1 minute.

Transfer meat to a cutting board and let rest 10 minutes. (For medium-rare, your steak should reach an internal temperature of 125°–130°.)

Cut meat from bone and slice against the grain 1" thick. Spoon some infused brown butter over steak and sprinkle with sea salt.

A Cute short Love Story...
This love story should help enhance your sensitivity training for the year ahead.
 ttp://camtrader.ca/media/classifieds/157/slider_1.jpg

Alan and Sandra lived on a cove at Gull Lake, Wisconsin.  It was early winter and the lower portion of the cove had frozen over.  Alan asked Sandra if she would walk across the frozen part of the cove to the general store and get him some smokes and beer.

She asked him for some money, but he told her, Nah, just put it on our tab. Old man Stacey wont mind.

So Sandra, being the good wife and Alans true love, walked across the ice, got the smokes and beer at the store, and then walked back home across the cove.

When she got home with the items she said, Alan, you always tell me not to run up the tab at Staceys store. Why didnt you just give me some money?

Alan replied, Well, Sandra, I didnt want to send you out there with cash when I wasnt sure how thick the ice was!

A love story like this almost brings tears to my eyes . . .
