DIANE'S CORNER ... Celebrate Sweater Day
Image result for Sweaters gif
Who doesn’t love pulling on a cozy sweater on a cold day? It’s like getting a hug from the universe when you feel the weight and comfort as the sweater settles around you. You even hug yourself when you put it on… don’t hide from it, you know you do! Ladies, is there anything better than swiping your man’s sweater? That oversized, cologne-scented, hug of warmth keeps him close when he isn’t there! Guess what? It is Sweater Day! You have a great reason to dive into his closet and pick your favorite without feeling guilty!

History of Sweater Day

Beginning in the early 2000’s Sweater Day has been a great tool to get people thinking and talking about energy conservation. This holiday not only lets us show off all the gifts we get from Granny, but lets us dig deeply into our closets. Remember, this isn’t Ugly Christmas Sweater Day, but Sweater Day. What’s the difference? I’m glad you asked! While Ugly Christmas Sweater Day is a great time to get goofy, Sweater Day is about being serious.

It reminds us that when we don our sweaters, we can turn the thermostat down. We can lower the amount of fuel that is needed to keep us toasty in the wintertime. Do you hate it when those winter fuel bills show up? Does it make you feel like you need a fourth job? Have you taken the time to think larger than that and wonder what your fuel use does to the environment? This is the day to think about all of that.

Even the WWF (World Wildlife Fund) supports this holiday as the earth and all the animals on it are heavily affected by the various uses of fuel. Pollution sickens the sky and water. Overpopulation increases the amount of fuel needed and therefore makes it more difficult for the land based animals as well. But it is not all doom and gloom on this day I assure you!

Idiom of the Day

Rock Bottom

When someone hits rock bottom, they reach a point in life where things could not get any worse.  It is to reach the lowest possible level or be in the worst possible situation.
Examples: The president's opinion poll ratings have hit rock bottom  / I'd never felt so depressed in my life - I was at rock bottom
Did you know...?  This expression comes from the fact that when you throw a rock into a river it sinks to the very bottom.

If You Were Born Today, February 4

Determined and practical, others love your reliability as well as your sound advice. You are proactive, and procrastination only makes you nervous. That's fine because you are perfectly capable of methodically and determinedly going after what you want. Famous people born today:

On this date, the Massachusetts Senate put forward legislative language creating civil unions for same-sex couples to the SJC, asking if it satisfied the court’s requirements. On February 4, 2004, the court replied
that it was unacceptable to allow different-sex couples marriages but same-sex couples only civil unions, that the distinction between marriage and civil unions constituted unconstitutional discrimination, even if the rights and obligations attached to each were identical. It called the difference between the terms marriage and civil union "a considered choice of language that reflects a demonstrable assigning of same-sex, largely homosexual, couples
to second-class status."

The Harvesters
The Harvesters is an oil painting on wood completed by Pieter Bruegel the Elder in 1565. It was commissioned by Nicolaes Jonghelinck, a merchant banker and art collector from Antwerp. Depicting the harvest, in July, August or late summer, the painting is one in a series of six works representing different times of the year. As in many of his paintings, the focus is on peasants and their work and does not have the religious themes common in landscape works of the time. The painting is in the permanent collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, which has described it as a "watershed in the history of Western art".
