Love Note Day - September 26, 2018

DIANE'S CORNER ...
Celebrate Love Note Day
Image result for love note day gif
Love Note Day is a day to tell someone you love them, by writing a message of love in the form of a note. Though the traditional way of doing this is in handwritten form, eCards are another way of sending out a love message on this particular day.
This day can be at its most effective when the recipient of the message isn’t aware that Love Note Day even exists! Consequently, a loving message will come as a pleasant surprise.
For couples that plan exchanging Love Notes, then doing so in unpredictable ways can make the whole day a fun experience. Leaving a note in a fridge, or on the inside of the bathroom door are just two examples.
Love Note Day can be for any family members or for long time friends, too. It’s the perfect day to make someone feel appreciated through just a few heartfelt words.

Born John Chapman, Johnny Appleseed was an American folk hero known for planting apple trees. Around 1800, he traveled from Pennsylvania, where he had sold or given saplings and apple seeds to families migrating westward, to present-day Ohio, sowing apple seeds as he went. For more than 40 years, he continued to wander up and down Ohio, Indiana, and Pennsylvania, pruning and caring for his forest nurseries and helping hundreds of settlers to establish orchards.

Yemen September Revolution Day

Image result for Yemen September Revolution Day
Yemen observes two Revolution Days: one commemorates the revolutionary movement that overthrew the monarchy of Imam Muhammad al-Badr on September 26, 1962, and helped pave the way for the creation of the Yemen Arab Republic. Before that could occur, however, British occupation of the area remained another force impeding independence. Revolts against the British then ensued in 1962-63, and, by 1967, the British granted Yemen its sovereignty. These revolts are commemorated on October 14.

Cornelis Kruseman
Cornelis Kruseman (25 September 1797 – 14 November 1857) was a Dutch painter. Born in Amsterdam, he studied art with Charles Howard Hodges and Jean Augustin Daiwaille before moving to Italy via Paris in 1821. He remained in Italy for four years, working with and learning from artists Jean-Victor Schnetz and Louis Léopold Robert, and then moved back to the Netherlands and settled in The Hague. He lived in Italy again from 1841 to 1848, leading him to be called the "Italian Kruseman", before returning once more to the Netherlands for the rest of his life. His works included portraits, biblical scenes, and depictions of Italian peasant life. This picture is a self-portrait of Kruseman, which hangs in the Museum Van Loon in Amsterdam.

Traveling through Cuba in a vintage 1950 Chevrolet with a speedometer which no longer works, we were passing by the city of Camagüey known for its winding streets. The modern American Hawaiian hula figure and yellow taxi cab sign on the dashboard adds to the time travel-esque element of the classic Chevrolet, set against the backdrop of an old and perhaps dilapidated, but not forgotten, Cuba.

Tips for Working with New Knitters

  • Be patient and go slow! Sure, knitting seems easy to you now, but it's not so easy for someone who has never done it before. Move slowly and don't get frustrated when you need to show your student something over and over.

  • Get the person to relax. That may be the most important thing. Knitting is intimidating at first, and approaching it with calm and relaxation makes life easier for everyone.
