Stress Awareness Day - November 3, 2021

DIANE'S CORNER ..

Celebrate Stress Awareness Day

Stress can be a real killer, both in the workplace and in the busy, day-to-day life of each person on earth. While stress certainly serves a solid purpose in human biology, it is also true that modern life has brought about a surplus of causes that haunt people from day-to-day. And the impact has been, for some people, rather catastrophic.

When humans are faced with a challenge, or a threat to their well-being, the body experiences stress. By design, this was a good thing to notify and equip the brain to sense and respond to danger. Now, in modern times, stress responses come on even when people aren’t necessarily in imminent danger or risking their lives.

Whether dealing with a job that puts you under tremendous pressure or facing struggles in life or relationships that leave you in a state of constant worry, stress can be a real killer. In fact, some statistics show that more than 100,000 Americans die every year as a direct result of work-related stress. And that’s only the beginning.

Stress Awareness Day was set aside as a time to be aware of the stress in the modern world, understand its impact, and strive to mitigate the damage it can do.

History of Stress Awareness Day

Stress Awareness Day was established in 1998 by the International Stress Management Association (ISMA) to help provide information on stress, and strategies on how to address it for both companies and individuals.

The organization is particularly focused on business relationships and reducing stress in the workplace. Their aim is to help employers and employees support each other by providing comprehensive guides to establishing a program within their organization. They also seek to assist individuals by encouraging them to look after their health and well-being on a day-to-day basis.

DAILY SQUEEK

If You Were Born Today, November 3:

You have a markedly sarcastic yet fun sense of humor, which stems from a very keen sense of what is going on around you. You like to make a statement, shock more conservative folk, and you have a flair for the dramatic. Because you are progressive and not especially afraid of expressing your quirkiness, you can be prone to getting in trouble, but generally recover quickly. You actually possess a very practical, resourceful, and strong character. You experience many transformations through your personal relationships, which are passionate and challenging. (Not So) TOTALLY USELESS FACTS OF THE DAY

Chuck E. Cheese has an official backstory. He was an orphaned mouse who didn't know his own birthday. To make up for it, he'd host parties for children.

Humans can't walk in a straight line without a visual reference.
When blindfolded, you'll gradually walk in a circle.

A nurse working in palliative care spent 12 years recording her patient's dying epiphanies and found the top three regrets were:

1) Living a life others expected instead of one true to themselves
2) Having worked too hard
3) Not having the courage to express their feelings

Black Bart (Charles Earl Boles) (b. 1829; d. after February 28, 1888)

Authorities almost catch the California bandit and infamous
stagecoach robber called Black Bart; he manages to make
a quick getaway, but drops an incriminating clue that eventually sends him to prison.
Black Bart was born probably in the state of New York around 1830. As a young man, he abandoned his family for the gold fields of California, but he failed to strike it rich as a miner and turned to a life of crime. By the mid-1850s, stagecoaches and Wells Fargo wagons transported much of the huge output of gold from California. Often traveling in isolated areas, the Wells Fargo wagons and stagecoaches quickly became favorite targets for bandits; over the course of about 15 years, the company lost more than $415,000 in gold to outlaw robbers. It is believed that Boles committed his first stagecoach robbery in July 1875.

Vegan Nuggies For Four

1 block of firm tofu

Marinade:

1 t. garlic powder

1 t. onion powder

1 t. parsley

1 t. poultry seasoning

1 t. turmeric

1 t. smoked (or hot) paprika

1 t. soy sauce

1 c. hot veggie broth

Breading*:

¼ c. good-tasting nutritional yeast flakes

1/3 c. oat flour

½ c. coconut or almond flour

Save half of the spices for the breading. Mix the other half with the soy sauce and veggie broth.

Cut the tofu into three large slices, then tear them into ’nuggets’ and immerse them in the marinade.

Cool, then chill for several hours.

Mix the breading ingredients, and bread the drained nuggies.

Lay them on a prepared cookie sheet and bake at 400⁰ until lightly browned, about 15 minutes, then flip and bake for another 10 minutes. You can spray them with oil before baking, if you like them crispier.

Serve with a sauce of your choice; an easy one is:

1 part ketchup

1 part mayo

1 part Greek yogurt

* You can also just put rolled oats and unsweetened desiccated coconut in a food processor with the spices and nutritional yeast and process until finely ground.

PICTURES OF THE DAY

The Koala is a thickset arboreal marsupial herbivore endemic to Australia. Koalas live almost entirely on eucalyptus leaves. This is likely an evolutionary adaptation that takes advantage of an otherwise unfilled ecological niche, since eucalyptus leaves are low in protein, high in indigestible substances, and contain phenolic and terpene compounds that are toxic to most species. Like wombats and sloths, koalas have a very low metabolic rate for a mammal (which conserves energy) and rest motionless for about 20 hours a day, sleeping most of that time.

Both vegetarian and vegan diets may provide health benefits, including reduced body weight, lower cholesterol levels, and decreased risk of cardiovascular disease. However, it is important for vegetarians and vegans to ensure that they are meeting all of their nutritional requirements.

A little girl kicks a soccer ball. It goes 10 feet and comes back to her. How is this possible?

answer:

Ever heard of  the virtue of Newton's third Law of Motion? She kicked it up into the air vertically above her and the ball rises to 10 feet and then comes back to her by the virtue of gravity!
