Purple Day is a celebration aimed at raising worldwide awareness of epilepsy, a condition that affects over 65 million people globally. Cassidy Megan, a nine-year-old from Canada, founded Purple Day in 2008. Cassidy’s efforts were supported by the Epilepsy Association of Nova Scotia (EANS). Lavender is the international color for epilepsy and is also a color that symbolizes solitude. This led to purple being the color of choice for this celebration.
Anybody interested in supporting Purple Day can become an ‘Ambassador of Purple’. This role involves wearing purple and spreading awareness of epilepsy in your community and to friends and family. Alternatively, dress in purple and hold a purple-themed fund-raising event in aid of either EANS, The Anita Kaufman Foundation or any other charity supporting epilepsy awareness. Most importantly, take the time to increase your own awareness about the effects of epilepsy on people’s lives.

History
Jack Kevorkian Convicted of Second-Degree Murder (1999)
By 1998, Dr. Jack Kevorkian had been prosecuted numerous times—without being convicted—for the deaths of terminally ill patients whose suicides he had admittedly assisted. However, after the TV program 60 Minutes aired a videotape of him administering a lethal injection to a man who was too physically debilitated to commit suicide on his own, Kevorkian was charged with murder. He chose to defend himself in court and was convicted.
Sir Benjamin Thompson, Count Rumford (1753)
A scientist and inventor, Thompson was perhaps the first person to recognize heat as a form of motion, at a time when many believed it to be a substance. He invented various heat-related items, including a double boiler, a drip coffeepot, thermal underwear, and a more efficient fireplace. After he was denied a commission in the Continental Army, Thompson spied for the British in the American Revolution.
Seward's Day
When William Henry Seward, Secretary of State for President Andrew Johnson, signed the treaty authorizing the purchase of Alaska from Czarist Russia for $7 million on March 30, 1867, most Americans thought he was crazy. But public opinion quickly changed when gold was discovered in the region, and its natural gas, coal, and oil reserves, in addition to its seafood and lumber industries, have proved to be far more valuable than its gold. Unfortunately, Seward did not live to see his foresight commemorated as a legal holiday in the state of Alaska.

Ingredients for DIY Wood Polish
happymoneysaver
2 parts olive oil
1 part lemon juice.
1 part lemon juice.
That’s seriously it, folks.
Directions for DIY Wood Polish
In an empty spray bottle or in a regular jar, mix 2 parts olive oil with 1 part lemon juice. It’s a smart idea to first strain the lemon juice in a fine mesh strain to prevent your spray bottle from clogging. I just used an empty spray bottle from a natural, store bought wood polish I have used before. Shake well to emulsify the mixture. Bada bing! You have yourself some wood polish. Spray sparingly onto wood and in circular motions, rub the polish into the wood until it is well buffed with a soft cloth. If storing in a regular jar, just pour a small amount onto the cloth and buff into the wood in circular motions.
