Whether you have a sweet tooth or prefer a carbohydrate filled treat, the sticky bun is the ideal gastronomic delight to fill the brief. Fortunately for those who enjoy a good sticky bun, an entire day is dedicated to celebrating and eating them – Sticky Bun Day.
The exact origins of the sticky bun are debatable, as is the history of Sticky Bun Day. While some attribute the sticky bun to the Ancient Egyptians, others argue that it originates in Germany. However, one thing that is agreed on is that German settlers brought the sticky bun to Pennsylvania in the United States. These pastries were originally called ‘schnecken’ and are a specialty of Philadelphia.

History
The Creation of the Peace Symbol (1958)
Historically, the idea of peace has been represented by symbols that attempt to transcend differences of culture, such as the white dove, the olive branch, and the broken rifle. The now-familiar line-drawing of a crow's foot in a circle was created specifically for the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament by British artist Gerald Holtom, but it quickly caught on as a general, international sign for peace.
Jeanne Calment (1875)
At the age of 100, Calment was still riding a bicycle around her native Arles, France. She lived on her own until she was 110 and smoked until she was 117. She saw the Eiffel Tower being built and remembered selling colored pencils to Vincent van Gogh as a girl in her family's shop. By the time she died in 1997 at the age of 122, Calment had lived the longest confirmed human life in history—and outlived her entire family.
Shaheed Day
Shaheed or Shahid Day is a national day of mourning in Bangladesh. Before becoming autonomous in 1971, Bangladesh had been East Pakistan ever since India gained independence from Britain in 1947. West Pakistan wanted to make its language, Urdu, the only official language of both Pakistans. Most of the people in East Pakistan spoke Bengali and opposed the restriction on their language in government and commerce. In 1952, students held protests which erupted in violence. Lives were lost, and, as a memorial, people form a procession from the Azimpur graveyard on February 21 each year.

Amplang crackers are commonly made of ikan tenggiri (wahoo) or any type of Spanish mackerel, mixed with starch and other materials, and then fried. Their size and shape varies, from traditional elongated "tiger nails", to dice, to ping pong balls. The colour may range from yellow to light brown.

CROCKPOT RECIPE
Crockpot Short Ribs with Pomegranate Molasses Recipe
thenosher
Ingredients
3 1/2 pounds short ribs on the bone
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp dried coriander
1/2 tsp sweet paprika
Pinch red pepper flakes
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
Olive oil
1 onion, diced
3 garlic cloves, minced
3 ribs of celery, diced
1 heaping Tbsp tomato paste
1 1/2 cups chicken, beef or veal stock
1 1/2 cups red wine
3 Tbsp soy sauce
1/3 cup pomegranate molasses, plus extra for serving
Fresh parsley (optional)
Pomegranate arils (optional)
Directions
Mix together the cinnamon, coriander, paprika, red pepper flakes, salt and pepper in a small bowl.
Place the short ribs on a large plate and rub the spice mix all over the ribs, covering all sides. Allow to sit in the fridge covered in plastic wrap a few hours if you have the time.
Heat a few tablespoons of olive oil in a large pan over medium-high heat. Sear the short ribs on all sides until brown. You will want to do this in batches depending on how many ribs you make.
When all the ribs have been seared, place them into the bottom of your slow cooker.
Drain off all oil in pan, except for around 2 or 3 tablespoons. Add onion and celery to the pan and sauté until translucent, about 4 to 6 minutes. Add garlic and continue to cook. After a few minutes, add 1 heaping tablespoon tomato paste and cook until the tomato has incorporated into the vegetables.
Add the cooked vegetables to the slow cooker with the stock, wine, soy sauce and pomegranate molasses. Set your slow cooker for 6 hours on high and allow to cook, ensuring the short ribs are completely covered with liquid.
When short ribs are finished cooking, garnish an extra drizzle of pomegranate molasses, fresh chopped parsley and pomegranate seeds, if desired.
Makes 4-6 servings.

Question: Made of metal and wood, these old sleds definitely gave plenty of wintry rides to kids in their day. The natural-finish sled is an Airline Racer; the painted one is a Hiawatha. Are there differences in the value and age of these sleds? What makes a sled particularly collectible?
Answer: Samuel Leeds Allen was granted a patent for his Flexible Flyer sled in 1889. Unlike earlier sleds, the Flexible Flyer could be steered by applying pressure to either side of a bar at the front of the sled. Sales took off when Allen, who manufactured farm and garden tools, began marketing his sleds to toy departments of department stores. In 1915, S.L. Allen & Co. Inc. of Philadelphia sold 120,000 Flexible Flyers. The Airline Racer was a line of Flexible Flyer sleds. This 60-inch sled retailed for $7.95 in 1941. Hiawatha was a store brand sold by Gambles stores. The decoration dates it to the 1960s. Unless they are from the 1920s or older and in excellent condition, Flexible Flyer-type sleds are seldom priced more than $60, and often much less—depending on the season.
Question: Although this Handlan #57 lantern is missing the cap for the fuel reservoir, it still makes an interesting addition to my home. Made of red glass and yellow metal, it measures about 8 inches high. How old do you believe it is, and how much would it be worth if the cap were still intact?
Answer: Handlan Inc., founded in 1856 in St. Louis, Mo., produced railroad signals and lanterns, marine and river lamps, and signals for the road-construction industry. This type of signal lamp, called a traffic guard, alerted motorists to construction sites and road hazards. Handlan introduced the #57 in the late 1940s, but the seam around the bottom developed leaks. This second-generation Handlan #57, which eliminated the bottom seam, went into production in 1957. I haven't determined when production ceased, but Handlan closed its St. Louis factory in 1964. Your traffic guard lamp is also missing its bail, from which the lantern was hung on a barricade. You might be able to replace the cap at a lamp-supply company. Handlan #57 lamps in good condition are found on internet sites priced from $40 to $70.
